Proof is in the Field

Being that I work in the office, I welcome a change in scenery. A chance to get into the field and see first hand how our products are used and the impact they make for those that use them is a treat. Last week I was able to hitch a ride with one of our Ag District Sales Managers, Matt Langa to take a day trip out to the Chowchilla/Firebaugh area.

The mission was to look at a site with drip irrigated alfalfa and flood irrigated alfalfa for an upcoming project. What struck me was how easily I could tell the difference between the alfalfa fields that were flood irrigated and the drip irrigated fields. The drip irrigated fields of alfalfa were taller, lusher and the rows were similar height down from the beginning of the row to the end of the row. The flood irrigated fields had smaller, sparser growth at the end where the water flows to the fields. I inquired about the harvesting schedule and was told the two fields get harvested one after the other so the alfalfa fields are similar in stage. I didn’t ask about how the fields were treated so this will be something I ask as we continue our study.

At my desk I read and write about the advantages of drip irrigation almost every day. Being in the field and seeing the difference with my own eyes brought me a whole new level of understanding and reinforced enthusiasm about drip.
